Erythromycin Enteric-Coated Tablets

Pharmacological category: Macrolide antibiotics, broad-spectrum antibacterial drug

Product Description

1.Mechanism of action:

Binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and peptide chain extension to exert bacteriostatic effect, with bactericidal effect on sensitive bacteria at high concentration. It is sensitive to most Gram-positive bacteria, part of Gram-negative bacteria, mycoplasma, chlamydia and anaerobic bacteria; the enteric-coated preparation avoids gastric acid destruction, increases intestinal absorption, and reduces gastrointestinal irritation.

2.Indications:

Mild to moderate infections caused by sensitive pathogens, including respiratory tract infection (pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia), otitis media, sinusitis, oral infection, skin and soft tissue infection; also effective for mycoplasma pneumonia, chlamydia infection, pertussis and diphtheria; adjuvant treatment for syphilis and gonococcal infection, alternative drug for penicillin allergy patients.

3.Usage and dosage:

Oral administration, swallow whole with warm water, do not chew or crush (to protect enteric coating). Adult: 0.25g~0.5g once, 3~4 times a day, the maximum daily dose is 4g. Pediatric: 30~50mg per kg body weight per day, divided into 3~4 times, adjust dosage according to age and condition strictly. The course of treatment is 7~14 days for general infection.

4.Contraindications:

Contraindicated in patients allergic to this product, macrolide antibiotics and any excipients of the preparation.

5.Cautious population:

Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency (reduce dosage and monitor liver function); use with caution in patients with gastrointestinal diseases (gastritis, peptic ulcer, enteritis); pregnant and lactating women use with caution after weighing benefits and risks; elderly patients with reduced organ function use with caution; infants and young children use under strict medical guidance; patients with QT interval prolongation and arrhythmia use with caution.

6.Adverse reactions:

Common gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, abdominal distension and loss of appetite (milder than ordinary erythromycin tablets due to enteric coating); occasional dizziness, headache, fatigue, rash and pruritus; rare cholestatic jaundice, elevated transaminase, hearing loss and leukopenia (more common in long-term/high-dose use); a small number of patients have allergic reactions, adverse reactions are reversible after drug withdrawal.

  7.Notes:

Do not chew the tablet to prevent damage to enteric coating and gastric acid destruction; take on an empty stomach (1 hour before meals) to    improve absorption; avoid combined use with acidic drugs; long-term medication may cause intestinal flora imbalance and secondary fungal infection;  complete the full course of treatment to avoid bacterial drug resistance; monitor liver function regularly during long-term medication, stop the drug  immediately if jaundice occurs.
